Literatura y fotografía (Habilitationsprojekt)

Among the visual media, photography is one of the most powerful means of representation because of the popularly accepted view of its accurate reflection of reality and referentiality. This one level is refuted by the suspicion, particularly evident in writings on photography, that photographs are the products of human consciousness and do indeed mediate reality. In my research I aim to pay particular attention to questions about how the two representational forms – the written and the photographic – enter negotiations with each other to depict identity.
